Shanks

Firehole shanks are the platform for articulated streamers and intruders. Articulated and straight, four lengths each, built to pair with Firehole Sticks streamer and trailer hooks.

Use a straight shank to extend a profile without adding a second hook. Use an articulated shank to trail a stinger behind a large body and pick up the short strikes a single hook misses. The AS1 runs 0.9mm stainless for larger flies, the AS2 runs 0.8mm for smaller ones, and the SS runs 1.1mm carbon steel for intruder builds off a 714.

Wire gauge matters more here than length. Too light and the front section collapses under stacked material on a hard cast. Too heavy and the fly hangs nose-down when it should swim level.
