Trout obsessed in every way, I have been infatuated with fly tying and fishing from childhood. I run a commercial fly tying company and guide the upper Kenai River in Cooper Landing Alaska. I grew up in Colorado, but have moved around to Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah looking for big trout and beautiful places.
Fly Tying Experience
Years Tying Flies: 12
How You Got Started:
I found fly tying and fly fishing books in my local library when I was 11, and took to it like a duck to water. I read everything I could, found lots of videos, and was gifted a simple fly tying kit for Christmas. Since that day, I have been tying flies like a madman, and probably will until my hands can’t move anymore.
Target Species: Brown Trout
Favorite Waters to Fish: Southern Colorado, Idaho; Henry’s Fork
Fly Tying Style & Specialties
I focus on tungsten nymphs, large streamers, and spey style intruders and swinging flies. I also tie a large amount of Stillwater Chironomid patterns.
Why You Trust Firehole:
I love firehole because of the unique colors and finishes of their beads. They often produce great results when fishing, and mature trout really seem to have a keen interest in a matte bead. Nobody makes a buggier matte bead than Firehole does.
