Scott Fisher - Washington, New Jersey

Scott Fisher, Firehole ambassador

Growing up two hours from the famous Catskill rivers, I am inspired by the historical figures and works of Theodore Gordon, Rube Cross, the Dettes and Darbees, Art Flick, and more. I focus on preserving the heart of these historic patterns while occasionally integrating modern materials to aid in performance. Dry fly fishing is my favorite of all methods, but I strive to be a complete angler and love to learn all disciplines of the sport.

Fly Tying Experience

Almost 15 years

How You Got Started

I was a conventional angler until a close friend of mine started to take interest in fly fishing. He would bring it up more and more until one day he joined me to go fish; he brought his fly rod. As I was catching nothing and scoffing at him thinking the fly rod would do no better, he takes his first cast and as I watched the line roll out and lay across the water, the fly turned over and a fish immediately devoured the fly with a great big splash. I went out the very next day to buy a rod and it has never stopped since!

Favorite Pattern to Tie

My favorite pattern to tie is a BWO emerger on a Firehole 316

Favorite Species & Waters

I primarily target trout, but I will target other species while guiding clients in the warmer months

Fly Tying Style & Specialties

My tying style is very well rounded but heavily routed in traditional patterns, influenced by my art background in design, color choices, and approached with a 'form follows function' mindset. I specialize primarily in Catskill style dry flies and North Country spiders. I do enjoy fishing more modern patterns and material choices when guiding clients and getting them on to fish.

Why You Trust Firehole

I have been using Firehole hooks for many years, and one of the most defining features are the incredibly sharp hook points, hook strength, and unique hook designs. They have never failed me, and have held fish on better than any other barbless hook.

Fun Fact

I have been an avid record collector since I was about 8 years old, and love to listen to and play music.
