Todd Birchby has been passionate about fly fishing since the age of seven, inspired by his father's love of the sport. He began tying flies at just eight years old and has spent the past 30 years sharing his knowledge and passion as a professional guide.
Over the years, Todd has had the privilege of introducing countless anglers to the art and enjoyment of fly fishing. He has also tied flies commercially for several Denver-area fly shops and taught numerous fly-tying classes, helping others develop their skills and appreciation for the craft. I am also a Signature Tyer for Umpqua.
Fly Tying Experience
I have been tying flies for close to 30 years.
How You Got Started
My dad taught me to tie my first fly which was gold ribbed Hares Ear.
Favorite Pattern to Tie
As of late I have been tying Hi-Viz BWO. I tie a lot of custom orders during the winter.
Favorite Species & Waters
I guide for rainbow trout during the summers for Three Forks Ranch. Which is located in Savery Wyoming on the Little Snake River.
Fly Tying Style & Specialties
I tie a lot of Parachute flies. They float great and sit low in the water and are easy for my clients to see in the water.
Why You Trust Firehole
I have been using Firehole hooks since their inception. They're strong, barbless hooks with a great hook gap.

Gear & Bench Setup
I have recently bought a new desk that has an adjustable height. Which helps me because of my neck issues. My vise is a Renzetti Master Series, which I love.
